At Tufts University in Boston, she designed her own degree centered on the psychology of design, studying the visual system, how we experience aesthetics and how the brain reacts to visual stimuli.

Van Dusen’s clothing and homeware label could be described as an act of rebellion against minimalism. Her pieces are an homage to the power clash — marked by intersecting stripes and loud, mismatched colors.
